Pokemon: The Musical

This new mini musical from The Online Musical team, Jeff Luppino-Esposito and Matt Savarese, totally made my day. Also, almost literally did a spit-take watching Matt Savarese play a small but crucial Poke-role.

So when is this going to be hitting the stage? I see this as more evidence of theater imitating larger popular culture, and I think it's great.
I was able to get the Book of Mormon tickets this summer and I loved it. As I saw it, the social commentary was no worse than what you'd see on TV, but it was FUNNY, and the songs were catchy.
I got some other tickets for Broadway shows like "Avenue Q" and "Warhorse", and loved them too. A trip to New York every now and again is good for the soul!

If you liked this, you should definitely check out my interview with 2 of the guys behind these videos here: http://emergingmt.blogspot.com/2011/01/online-musical-interview-with-jeff.html. They do a ton of pop culture and audience participation-related projects, but they also talk in the article about how musical projects made for online audiences can translate to the stage.

I love audience participation shows. I used to go to Rocky Horror shows once a month or so. It's a shame there's not more of that going on right now. Spiderman doesn't count.
There's a lot of good stuff on Broadway right now. I found some discount How to Succeed in Business tickets and I enjoyed it very much.
